Laureen E. Launey

I consider myself privileged to pursue the beautiful language of art. And if you the viewer read these images and they speak to you, I am then greatly satisfied.

It is a calling to transcribe the feelings of my inner voice into the drawings.

I fill the body of the images with intricate geometric patterns that speak of the beautiful inner nature we all possess, all cultures, all people! As an artist I am very content expressing my love of pen and ink drawings, and continuing to do so, finding the power to move mountains!

The art is an inspired collaboration with my partner Stephen Bakes. I enjoy how Steve’s pointillism style blends perfectly with my images.

All my art making is simply channeling of my imagination. With my pastel work I feel as if I am sculpting an environment to evoke an inventive world. I like layering color upon color and then blending the shapes with my fingers and other tools. I like the sense of play with oil and chalk pastels, allowing room for surprise, spontaneity and feelings.

I like art nouveau because it was the first style to stop looking backwards in history for ideas. My art represents the challenge to stay in the present moment and create works of art in a variety of mediums interpreting the times we live in now, to wake us up to our higher selves.

I am a self taught artist and I have been painting in acrylics for the past 35 years. The medium allows a natural and easy flow for spontaneous paintings to arise from my imagination. To this day new ideas are coming, often based on my exploration of “simulacra”, a form of art which brings out the unconscious symbolic images which lie within the mind, waiting to be expressed by the artist. Sometimes the shapes evoke a memory and I play with that.

I like to paint the inner and outer worlds merging, so the design shows one world in the foreground and the other world in the background, so close they shift back and forth! That is something I strive for as one of my particular forms of expression.

My recent works evoke a blending of calm colors with abstract landscapes.

I am fortunate to have this chance to do collaborative art work with Laureen. I have a world of “dots” inside me that need a framework to bring them alive and give meaning to them. Laureen’s pen and ink style blends well with my pointillism, creating a “home” for my dots.

I want to draw pictures with a sense of light and beauty, that is what motivates me.

I am amazed at Laureen’s confidence in handing me a finished drawing, knowing I will bring to the art a sense of aliveness and inner light with the pointillism

I wish to continue creating art work with a sense of spiritual peace, joy, meditation, contentment, happiness, trying to tap into an experience greater then we can see or describe, except by art.
